Get set for adventure in Slade Gardens!

At the other side of Vassall Ward to Myatt's Fields Park, entrance in Lorn Road, SW9, is Slade Gardens. This open space was created by London County Council for community use following the second world war, it opened in 1962 and continues under Lambeth control to offer a pleasant open park setting for activities.

Of most interest to young people is the adventure playground including a large pirate ship which is open to everyone for supervised play from 3:30-6:30pm Tuesday - Friday and 11am - 4pm on Saturdays and alternate Sundays. In school holidays it is open 10am - 6pm Monday - Friday.

As well as the adventure playground there is a dog free children's play area and a One O'Clock Club which is open to all parents with under 5s and provides a range of activities for children whilst allowing parents and carers time to relax. The One O'Clock Club in Slade Gardens is open on Mondays, Tuesday, Wednesdays and Fridays (closed first Tuesday of the month) from 1-4pm. In addition the Club runs a Father to Father drop in on Tuesday mornings (10am-12pm), a Muslim Women's drop in on Wednesday mornings (10am-12pm) and a Spanish and Portugese language drop in session on Friday mornings (9:30-11am).

The Club also runs regular events for local parents and carers - the next one will take place on Wednesday 17 February 2010 from 1 - 3:30pm and will focus on healthy living. Come along to find out how to improve your family's physical and mental wellbeing - a speech and languge therapist, a nutritionalist and early years librarians coming on the day. There will also be a stop smoking counsellor available.

Local Vassall Labour Action Team member Adrian Garden commented "Slade Gardens is a great local facility for Vassall Ward residents and I would encourage everyone to use it for adventure, for sports and for fun. In my dealings with the management committee I have been very impressed with their commitment to the adventure playground and Slade Gardens generally, I think this is an excellent example of Lambeth working well with local people to make the borough a better place in which to live."
