Valerie Shawcross secures temporary free replacement bus service along Coldharbour Lane

Valerie Shawcross, Labour member of the Greater London Assembley for Lambeth and Southwark, has secured a free replacement bus services linking Brixton and Camberwell whilst the usual bus routes are diverted due to gas works on Coldharbour Lane.

As previously reported here Coldharbour Lane at the junction with Hinton Road is closed for six weeks from 13 February.

As a result of this closure bus services 35, 45, 345 have had to be diverted via Effra Road and Denmark Hill because of low bridges near to Hinton Road. The diversion added more that 30 minutes to the journey time causing considerable inconvenience.

More than 700 local residents signed a petition calling for a replacement and numeours others contacted their Assembly Member directly.

Val commented "The gas works mean that double deck routes 35, 45, 345 and N35 can’t get from Camberwell to Brixton along Coldharbour Lane because the diversion to allow for the gas works uses roads where there are low bridges."

She went on "This has meant that people living in the Coldharbour Lane/Loughborough Junction area have been without a bus service to access shops and facilities in either Brixton or Camberwell. I’m absolutely delighted that Transport for London has recognised these exceptional circumstances and listened to the many people who signed the petition. A single deck shuttle bus service will run five times an hour from today until the gas works are completed – which is expected to take until the end of March"’
