12,000+ Christmas trees recycled in Lambeth

Following on from the Vassall View story Lambeth Council report that more than 12,000 Christmas trees have been collected and recycled in January. The 12,000 tress equate to 70 tonnes of trees - up from 54 tonnes last year. Lorna Campbell, Cabinet Member for the Environment estimated that the tree recycling has saved the Council almost £9,000 in collection costs as well as providing nutritious compost for Lambeth's parks. She commented "“Every tonne of waste that we have to send to landfill costs the council, and therefore council taxpayers, £128 in disposal charges, so every tonne we can divert from landfill really counts."
