Celebrate bonfire night and more in Brockwell Park this Saturday

Lambeth Council's firework display this year will take place on Saturday 5 Novmeber 2011 in Brockwell Park, Herne Hill, SE24. There is a full programme of events in the park from 4pm onwards. To celebrate the 200th anniversary of Brockwell Hall the main firework display from 8pm onwards will be set to music from the past 200 years.

Camilla comes to Brixton to open Ebony Horse Club

Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall has opened a new horse riding centre in Brixton near to Vassall Ward in Lambeth. The new £1.7million facility in Millbrook Road, SW9 offers riding lessons and other activities for young people in the local area.

Minet Library Film Club: next film Room at the top: 1 November 2011

The Minet Library in Lambeth's Vassall Ward is starting a new season of film screenings focusing on the British new wave films which emerged in the late 1950s.

The first film to be screened will be Room at the top: an adaptation of John Braine's classic novel about a young man on the make in 1940s Yorkshire. Room at the Top is considered the first of the British New Wave of realistic and gritty film dramas. Simone Signoret won the Academy Award for Best Actress for this film, while Hermione Baddeley's performance became the shortest ever to be nominated for an acting Oscar.

Room at the top will be screened at 6:30pm on Tuesday 1 November 2011 at the Minet Library, Knatchbull Road, Camberwell, SE5 in Lambeth's Vassall Ward.

Children's African and Caribbean tales at the Minet Library 25 October 2011

All children are invited to come to the Minet Library next Tuesday, 25 October 2011 at 6:30pm, for a special session with Winston Nzinga who will be telling African and Caribbean tales.

Free bag of compost!

Gardeners who sign up for Lambeth's Garden Waste Scheme in October 2011 will get a free bag of compost.

The Council launched the new service earlier in 2011 for gardeners who want to recycle garden waste using the handy fortnightly garden waste collections.
