Brixton Remakery sets out future plans for Paulet Road site

Brixton Remakery have published plans to convert a disused garage on the corner of Paulet Road and Lilford Road, SE5 in Lambeth's Vassall Ward into a reuse and recycling centre.

The scheme, supported by Lambeth Council, Lambeth Living, Transition Town Brixton and others, has been given a 15 year lease on the site which will provide a cost-effective working space for re-use and recyling businesses.

Organisers state  "The Remakery is a community led initiative to establish a co-working space for re-use and upcycling enterprises. The Remakery will provide affordable workspace, access to materials and business development support. It will create employment, training and volunteering opportunities and will save 200 tonnes of materials each year from being thrown away, including bicycles, wood, textiles, furniture and computers."

"The Remakery has been offered a 15 year lease on a 1000 sq m disused garage block in Paulet Road, and has been awarded £100,000 of capital funding through Lambeth Council's public voting project Your Choice, after receiving over 3000 votes from local residents. Architecture for Humanity (AfH London), a built environment charity, has designed the workspace, and a planning application for the Remakery was submitted in January 2012."

The Remakery have submitted a formal planning application which will be considered shortly, they have produced an exhibition of their plans for local residents which is on display in the entrance to the Minet Library on Knatchbull Road, SE5 from 3 - 19 March 2012.

Representatives of the Remakery will be at the Minet Library on Monday 5 March 2012 to talk through their plans at a drop-in session from 5 -8pm
