Three local Doctors practices have now moved to the new location: Iveagh House Surgery, Foxley Square Surgery and the Myatts Field Medical Practice.
In addition health, community and dental services will be provided at the Akerman Health Centre as well as the care of long term conditions such as diabetes and heart disease, and access to mental health services, including a specialist outreach service. It will be the main base for district nursing and specialist maternity services for people in Brixton.
Local GP and chair of the NHS Lambeth Clinical Commissioning Group Dr Adrian McLaughlin commented “The great strength of the Akerman Health Centre will be its bringing together under one roof of the healthcare and social care services that people living and working in Lambeth will need to stay well and healthy. We hope that the centre will also bring shorter waiting times and better access to services for patients. For us as clinical commissioners, reducing inequalities and improving healthcare for local people is a priority, and the Akerman Health Centre will go some way to achieving this.” Further information on the Akerman Health Centre website
