Lambeth Archives Open Day this Saturday, Minet Library

This Saturday, 29 September 2012, the Lambeth Archives, located at the Minet Library, Knatchbull Road, SE5 in Lambeth's Vassall Ward will be holding an open day.

The theme of the open day is local government. There will be talks, film screenings, an exhibition, local societies' stands and bookstalls and fun children's activities all centred on the question What has local governemnt ever done for us?

In this current period of "austerity" council services are going through some extraordinary challenges and changes and any previous certainty about who should run and fund them no longer exists. So this year the Arhcives are taking a long view of local government in Lambeth and considering its versatility, the services which it has provided and the impact it has had and continues to have on local people's lives.

Highlights include
10am - Vocation to Serve? Setting the scene. From the Elizabethan poor law to the big society - Len Reilly

10.15am - The measure of a city's greatness is to be found in the quality of it's spaces, Lambeth's parks and and open spaces - Dr Iain Boulton

11am - To sweep, flush and collect. Sewers and waste disposal - Fiona Price

SE5 Forum for Camberwell open meeting and AGM this Wednesday 19 September 2012

Vassall Ward residents living or working in the SE5 section of the ward are invited to the SE5 Forum open meeting and AGM which is taking place this Wednesday, 19 September 2012, from 6:30pm onwards. The meeting will take place at the Harry Caddick Community Centre at 63 Lilford Road, SE5, everyone is welcome.

Come and get the latest updates on revitalising Camberwell Town Centre and greater Camberwell Green, the Denmark Hill Station rebuild and new campaigns to take the Vision for Camberwell to a new level.

The SE5 Forum is a non-political, umbrella organisation that exists to work for the improvement of Camberwell to benefit all members. As you are probably aware the greater Camberwell area (ie the SE5 postcode area) is split between two local authorities - Lambeth and Southwark, three MPs - Kate Hoey, Harriet Harman and Tessa Jowell and several council wards which has meant that in the past it has not received the attention it deserved and as a result has not received the attention and investment that neighbouring areas such as Brixton, Peckham and Elephant have received.

More information on the AGM and SE5 Forum is available on the SE5 Forum website

Return your Voter registration form to stay on the electoral register

The Council has recently sent out electoral registration information to all households in the borough.

You should have received a letter addressed "To the Present Occupier" at your home with electoral registration details. Dont ignore it: to stay on the electoral register you need to return the form or update your details, even if nothing has changed.

Polling Station sign on vassallview.com
You can update your electoral registration details by returning the paper form, text message or online - instructions and your unique security code are contained in the letter.

Whilst we are not  expecting an election in 2013 in Lambeth or across London it is important that the Council has up to date details for administrative purposes. Whether or not you are on the electoral register also affects your credit rating - not being on it may affect your ability to get a bank account, credit card or mobile phone contract.

If you have lost the voter registartion form you can download a new one on the Lambeth website
