Come to the Big Lunch for food and music this Sunday in Myatt's Fields Park

This Sunday, 2 June 2013, come to Myatt's Fields Park, SE5 for the Big Lunch.

Everyone is welcome to ennjoy free music on the bandstand (pictured) and share food with neighbours during the Big Lunch from 1pm to 5pm.

 Sarabanda will be playing Cuban music from 1-3pm including hot Cuban Salsa, Son, Timba, Cha cha cha and Latin jazz. From 3-5pm King Groovy and the Hornstars will be playing jazz, swing, Latin and funky groove with an 18 piece big band..


Myatt's Fields Park is situated in Camberwell: between Calais Street, Cormont Road and Knatchbull Road, SE5 in Vassall Ward in Lambeth.

Sunflowers planted on Van Gogh Walk

On Wednesday residents of Van Gogh Walk, SW9 in Lambeth's Vassall Ward planted sunflowers to provide a burst of colour in the street in time for summer.

Vassall Ward Councillor Adrian Garden (pictured with local residents) joined in the planting. Sunflowers are of course associated with painter Vincent Van Gogh who is well known for his sunflower paintings. Van Gogh Walk is named after the painter who lived nearby in the nineteenth century.

Vauxhall City Farm Open Day this Saturday

This Saturday, 1 June 2013, Vauxhall City Farm is holding an open day at the start of its Volunteers' Week which runs from 1 - 7 June 2013.

The farm is located near to Vauxhall Station, SE11; a short walk from Vassall Ward in Lambeth.

Come to the farm to admire the spring arrivals including new lambs, buy cakes and see the work of the farm's volunteers. There will be lots of activities for children and families.

Vassall Ward Councillor checks on progress of new council housing on Myatts North Estate

Vassall Ward Councillor Adrian Garden on Wednesday saw for himself the progress that Regenter are making with the regeneration of the Myatts Field North Estate in Lambeth's Vassall Ward.

Councillor Garden (pictured) visited one of the first five new council housing properties on the estate and spoke to the new tenants.

He commented "It was great to check on the progress of the regeneration by visiting one of the newly built council properties on the estate. I was very impressed with the quality of the accommodation and the start of the transformation of the estate. I look forward to seeing many more houses being built for Vassall Ward residents over the next few years."

The regeneration of the Myatts Field North Estate started in May 2012 and is expected to last five years.

When completed the scheme will see
• Refurbishment of 172 tenanted and leasehold properties
• Demolition and new build of 305 tenanted and leasehold properties
• Additional 503 private properties
• New landlord district heating (Combined Heat & Power) system
• New community centre and park
• Repairs and maintenance services
• Housing management services
• Development and support of community services

Come and celebrate the redecoration of the Minet Library in Vassall Ward

On 10 June 2013 come and celebrate the redecoration of the Minet Library and Lambeth Archives on Knatchbull Road in Lambeth's Vassall Ward SE5 with a talk by historian Jon Newman on the Minet family who did so much to shape the local area surrounding the library including donating the library and land for Myatts Fields Park for the benefit of local people.

Lambeth Readers and Writers Festival in your local library

In May 2013 the Lambeth Readers and Writers Festival takes place in Lambeth's libraries. A full programme of free events is being out in the various libraries including the Minet Library in Vassall Ward.

Myatts Fields Park playground closed temporarily 1 - 3 May 2013

We have been informed by Myatt's Fields Park that the playground will be closed temporarily from Wednesday 1 to Friday 3 May 2013 to allow for maintenance and replacement of the central water feature. the new playground will reopen on Saturday. The rest of Myatt's Fields Park and the Mulberry One O'Clock club are open as normal.
